Reef Carbonate is a highly concentrated (4,000 meq/L) and optimized blend of carbonate and bicarbonate salts specifically formulated to restore and maintain alkalinity in reef aquariums. Essential for coral growth, calcium and carbonates must be balanced to prevent cessation of coral development and deterioration of coral health. This product effectively provides the necessary carbonates while preserving calcium, magnesium, and strontium levels, which typically precipitate as alkalinity increases.

Maintaining reef alkalinity between 3–5 meq/L (8–14 dKH) is crucial, with levels never falling below 2 meq/L to support vibrant coral ecosystems. The dosing regimen is adaptable for all experience levels: beginners can start with 1 capful (5 mL) per 80 L (20 gallons) twice weekly, diluting it in freshwater before adding to the tank. Alkalinity should be monitored every two weeks to adjust dosing frequency or amount accordingly.

Advanced users are encouraged to test alkalinity and dose to achieve a target of 4–5 meq/L, with each dose increasing alkalinity by approximately 0.25 meq/L. Daily dosing should not exceed 1 meq/L. Experts can determine their tank’s alkalinity consumption rate and set up a continuous drip system using a simple formula to calculate the precise amount of product to add to top-off water, ensuring consistent and stable alkalinity levels.

For optimal results, add Reef Carbonate gradually near areas of strong water movement and avoid dosing in sumps or zones with slow water exchange. Use reliable testing kits such as MultiTest™ Marine pH & Alkalinity or Reef Status™: Magnesium, Carbonate & Borate to accurately measure total or carbonate alkalinity. Avoid overdosing, as excess alkalinity can accelerate the loss of essential minerals. It is recommended not to mix this product directly with calcium, magnesium, or strontium supplements; instead, alternate their addition by at least 30 minutes or on different days.

This conditioning solution is ideal for maintaining a healthy, thriving marine reef environment by supporting the vital chemical balance necessary for coral vitality and growth.
